Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is widely admired for its diversity, stunning landscapes, and remote, untamed start, making it one of the most captivating trails on Kilimanjaro. Although sightings of large wildlife such as antelopes are rare, they are still possible, adding to the sense of wilderness. A major highlight of this route is the crossing of the Shira Plateau, one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in the world. Compared to other popular trails, Lemosho sees fewer hikers, and while much of the route overlaps with the Machame Route, its first two days offer a distinctly different experience.

Another advantage of the Lemosho Route is its excellent acclimatization profile, with multiple opportunities for “climb high, sleep low” strategies that significantly improve summit success rates. The majority of climbers complete the trek in seven days, though adding an extra day is recommended for those who wish to acclimatize more gradually. Unlike the Marangu Route, accommodations here are limited to camping, giving trekkers a more authentic mountain experience.
